OUTDOOR / NATURE / SLOW TRAVEL

Terre di Casole Bike Hub

Freedom, lightness and great satisfaction are the feelings that distinguish your outdoor experiences in Tuscany, especially on a bike!

In Valdelsa Valdicecina nature is the main element: it embraces small towns and has different landscapes with woods, hills covered with vineyards and olive trees, as well as unpaved tracks. You can choose among a great deal of routes of varying difficulties, as to length and gradients, and decide whether to test yourself on challenging paths or relax following easier ones.

“On your bike to discover all the beauty
of the Valdelsa Valdicecina”

A wide range of woods and panoramas open up around the characteristic town of Casole d’Elsa, crossed by kilometres and kilometres of cycle paths which can suit the tastes and needs of everyone. The project Terre di Casole Bike Hub, for instance, proposes journeys on roads or on unpaved roads, for gravel or mountain bikes, and even a “Grand Tour” of over 170 km!

Not too far there is also the Via Francigena, a very old road that winds through nature and offers incredible views coming across small towns, castles and parish churches: on foot or by bike, in stages or in single sections. The cycle stage B16 that crosses Valdelsa is one of the most beautiful and allows you to visit the medieval towns [link OK] of San Gimignano and Monteriggioni as well as less known places, still attractive, such as Poggibonsi and Colle Val d’Elsa.

In the surrounding area you can cross the Montagnola Senese thanks to the wide network of the CAI (Italian Alpine Club) footpaths; it is an area where the low hills make the rides a bit harder, but give you fresh air, shaded woodland and green routes.

Also the protected areas and the nature reserves can be explored on two wheels! Among the destinations not to be missed there is the Nature Reserve of Cornate and Fosini, in the municipality of Radicondoli, where the vegetation grows thick and luxurious around an ancient fortification whose ruins can still be seen today in the thick of the forest. In Valdicecina you can find the nature reserve of the Forest of Berignone, near Volterra, a green outpost that contrasts with the grey and smoky landscape of the Devil’s Valley. This is part of an area where the geothermal phenomena are the main attraction, which can be visited through routes suited for a good walk or a nice bike ride.

In Valdelsa Valdicecina unusual panoramas, breath-taking views and an attractive nature await you, following just the rhythm of your pedalling!
